the fourth of july.

The fourth has always been one of my favorite days of the year. I love fireworks! I have stacks of fond memories: wandering around the park as a wayward teen… wrapped in a blanket with a friend on a San Francisco roof (yes, a blanket in July)… scaling hidden fire escapes…

But my favorite 4th happened two years ago, when my beloved proposed. He presented a ring of his own design, hidden inside a beautiful handmade steel box he’d commissioned from a friend. That evening we wandered my Logan Square neighborhood in Chicago and watched all the renegade backyard fireworks, but even the most spectacular could not compare to that morning.

May your fourth of July be fantastic this year!

hello, world!

This is how every blog begins, I suppose. An introduction, an explanation…

I’ve been struggling with the process of updating my website for quite some time. I’m shooting frequently, and my subject matter ranges from weddings to motorcycles, birds to fashion. How do I show this to folks, without my website turning into an absolute mess? How narrow should my marketing focus be? Will someone who wants to hire me to photograph their wedding be turned off by motorcycle and band photography? Would someone who is considering my work for a gallery show be turned off by wedding photography? What about all those images I want to share that will never make the final portfolio cut?

This is the result of those questions. I am who I am, and I love working widely across this field. The photography and thoughts I share here are a conversation between us. I look forward to our journey!
